Let's celebrate the European week at the canteen !

We are third-year students attending the option European Cultures and Languages. We have recently collaborated with Mr Benchiha, the chef of the central kitchen to create European menus for the Week of Languages.

On Monday, there was the Danish meal. Students ate much fish, for example the smorrebrod and the friskadeller. On Tuesday, a Slovenian meal was served. It was one of the most original meals of the week. For instance, the soup was savoury and substantial. Students ate poultry for the main course and they discovered potica for the dessert. On Thursday, there was a Cypriot meal, inspired from Greek and Turkish cuisines. Everyone enjoyed the gyros (kebab) and the kourambiedes which is an almond cake. To finish, the Italian meal on Friday was a success. Most students enjoyed the brushetta, pasta carbonara and tiramisu.

Thanks to this project, we discovered European culinary traditions. After selecting four European countries, we carried out some research to suggest seasonal recipes to the chef. Once Mr Benchiha had chosen the dishes, we created a slideshow which we presented to the classes. We were glad to see how enthusiastic our schoolmates were. We also had the opportunity to help out in the canteen. We have a better understanding of the role of the canteen staff.

Our mobility to Daun

From March 2nd to March 7th, we went to Germany as part of the Erasmus programme. With our partners attending Klasse 7 at Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium, we are studying sustainable development.

On Monday, March 2nd, we travelled by bus and by train from Cherbourg to Wittlich. Léo said, “The journey was very long but it was joyful. I was eager to meet my pen pal.”

On Tuesday, March 3rd, we had a rally to visit Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium. Our partners' school is big and modern. Lola was impressed, “There is a room where students can dance.” We did several activities in the school like comparing the weather in Normandy and in Germany. We also danced a German dance, the Madison and the macarena.

In the afternoon, we visited a goat farm at Gillenfeld. We made goat cheese and tasted it. Roxane explained enthusiastically, “The walk with the goats was my favourite moment.”

On Wednesday, March 4th, we studied and tasted a healthy breakfast at school. Then, we went to the Junior Uni where we did several workshops about sustainability, renewable energies and wild herbs. As Victor explained, “We have learned how to better act to preserve the planet.” As for Kaïs, he remembers the bread and the nettle tea they made.

Then, we enjoyed a hike in the Vulkaneifel park.

On Thursday, March 5th, we attended different classes at Geschwister-Scholl-Gymnasium like French, English, art and physical education. Kaïs said, “I have very fond memories of climbing. It was very though.” We appreciated the teachers' kindness. We were surprised by the school routine. Indeed, students finish school at around 1 p.m., which means they are free in the afternoon.

On Friday, March 6th, we went to Cologne. First, we visited the chocolate museum, and we discovered how chocolate was made.

Then, we walked in the city centre and we visited the cathedral. Noé was amazed by the cathedral. Auréline admired the stained-glass windows.

Back to Daun, we attended an Erasmus ceremony : we got a diploma. Then, we enjoyed a farewell party.

On Saturday, March 7th, we came back to Cherbourg with so many beautiful memories.
We are now looking forward to hosting our partners from May 18th to May 23rd.

Our mobility to Amberg

From March 2nd to March 7th, we went to Germany as part of the Erasmus programme. With our partners attending Klasse 8 at Gregor-Mendel-Gymnasium, we are studying the culture of remembrance.

On Monday, March 2nd, we travelled by bus and by train from Cherbourg to Amberg. A long but exciting journey ! Axelle said, “I am very happy to go to Germany. The trip will enable me to discover beautiful new landscapes. And I can't wait to meet my partner in person.”

On Tuesday, March 3rd, we visited Gregor-Mendel-Gymnasium, and we did several activities in the school. The school is quite big. There are 650 pupils from 10 to 18 years old. The school days are shorter than in France. In the morning, a few older students made presentations to introduce the topic « the duty to remember », so we could better understand our upcoming visits. In the afternoon, we did an inspiring artistic workshop. With our partners, we had to make a collage about French German shared memory.

On Wednesday, March 4th, we first visited Mödlareuth, also known as « Little Berlin ». The village is situated partly in Bavaria and partly in Thuringia. Between 1949 and 1990, the village was divided by the wall separating East Germany from West Germany. The guide was inspiring. We learned about the Cold War, and we discovered how some inhabitants escaped East Germany or tried to escape.

In the afternoon, we visited the Margrave opera house in Bayreuth. The Baroque opera house has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2012. It was inspired by French Louis XIV style. The architecture is nice. We admired the trompe-l'œil ceiling and the wooden decorations. We sat on the stage and in the stalls. Prune loved visiting the opera house : “It was magnificent !”.

On Thursday, March 5th, we went to Nuremberg by train. We first discovered the castle, especially the well and the tower overlooking the medieval city. As Basile said, “We went all the way up the tower, and we saw the beauty of Nuremberg city”.
Then, we enjoyed a guided visit of the Memorium Nuremberg Trials. The guide was passionate about international right, and she made us understand how important the Nuremberg Trials were in history. We had the opportunity to sit in the historic Courtroom 600 of Nuremberg Palace of Justice. Between November 20, 1945, and October 1, 1946, the leaders of the Nazi regime had to answer for their crimes before the International Military Tribunal. The guide also made us understand how important it was to defend human rights.

In the afternoon, we enjoyed a guided visit of the Nazi Party rally grounds. We walked with the guide and discovered the « Reichsparteitagsgelände » (the Reich Party Congress Grounds). We discussed about propaganda which consists in manipulation through emotion. We learned about the Nazi Party congresses which would meet there every year in September from 1933 to 1938. We commented Albert Speer's austere and masterful architecture which was inspired by ancient monuments. We discussed about the future of such a monument. How about destroying the place ? Could it be a memorial not to forget the past and not to repeat past mistakes ? The city of Nuremberg decided to give this place a new purpose to demystify it.

On Friday, March 6th, we visited Hersbruck. First, we met the Mayor of Hersbruck and the deputy-Mayor in charge of the culture of remembrance. Delphine remembers the interview with the deputy Mayor : “It was super interesting. It enabled us to ask questions in English, so we enriched our language skills.” Some students attending Paul-Pfinzing-Gymnasium guided us in the medieval town. They made some research and commented different places in French. We were invited in the school. We also discovered the place where the concentration camp was.

In the afternoon, we had free time with our partners. Most of us met up at the swimming-pool. Axelle and Camille went to the theatre to see their partners acting in a play. Timéo and Indy practised karting with their partners. Lenny was lucky to attend a football match involving the famous team FC Bayern München with Lennard's family.

On Saturday, March 7th, we came back to Cherbourg with so many beautiful memories.

We are now looking forward to hosting our partners from June 8th to June 13th.

The Freedom Prize Voting Event

BEFORE THE VOTING EVENT

Since the beginning of the year, we have worked on a project named « Freedom Prize ». This is a prize which awards a defender of the human rights in the world. To participate in the event, we proposed some organisations or persons who fight for freedom in an exemplar manner, by filling a form on the Internet.

THE VOTING EVENT

On April 9th, we went at the University Institute of Technology and we voted for one of the three nominees : the NGO China Labor Watch, the activist Matiullah Wesa and the indigenous defender Nemonte Nenquimo. Everyone chose a fight that they find the most important.

After the vote, we listened to the great witness : a person invited by the organisation committee. Kam is an artist who defends humans rights with her drawings. She has written two graphic novels : first Lucha in 2021 and secondly Les Enfants du Pays in September 2025.

Then, there was a debate between Kam and Anne Lejeune, Head of Educational Projects at Cartooning for Peace. We could ask questions to them both and it was very interesting.

AFTER THE VOTING EVENT

On June 4th, we are going to the Freedom Prize ceremony : the winner will be awarded the Freedom Prize. It will take place at Caen Zenith and we are invited. It will be, for sure, an incredible event and we are very happy to attend it.

05/21 - Des affiches sur la prévention des écrans

Voici les affiches créées par les 6e3 après avoir lu le petit roman « Une énigme dans ma tirelire » de Delphine Pessin, qui faisait partie de la sélection du festival du livre de jeunesse et de bande dessinée de Cherbourg-en-Cotentin cette année. Les élèves ont envoyé leurs affiches aux CM2 de madame Guilleux, à l'école de Martinvast, qui ont lu aussi le roman de Delphine Pessin. Et les CM2 ont répondu aux 6e en leur envoyant des lettres !

05/21 - Let's celebrate Europe at the canteen !

Du 27 mai au 1er juin, la cantine sera européenne au collège grâce aux élèves de 4 1 LCE et à leur enseignante d'anglais, Marine Roussel.

Avec l'aide de David Poulain, le chef de cuisine, ils ont tout d'abord travaillé sur la réalisation de menus de plusieurs pays européens : Espagne, Italie, Allemagne, Pays-Bas, Irlande. Il fallait chercher des idées, voir si ces plats sont réalisables en restauration scolaire, vérifier la saisonnalité des produits, tout en tenant compte du coût de revient. Et les quantités ne sont pas les mêmes à la maison que pour 1600 repas ! Des recherches au CDI ont été nécessaires. Puis, les élèves ont mis la main à la pâte en allant réaliser un dessert avec le chef, en cuisine.

Et pour finir, pendant la semaine, ils présenteront aux classes de 6e les menus de la semaine européenne à la cantine. Ils commenteront en langue anglaise un diaporama pour expliquer le projet et présenter les menus, afin d'inciter les jeunes élèves à goûter à des plats qui leur sont inconnus.

04/21 - Opération Greffe de pommier

Dans le cadre du cours de SVT, les élèves de 6e se sont initiés à la greffe de pommier.

Grâce à deux bénévoles, les élèves ont pu greffer des pommiers de différentes espèces. Ces futurs pommiers ont été plantés dans le jardin du collège avec l'aide de M.Flambard, l'agent de maintenance du collège.

Débat citoyen en langue anglaise

Ouvert aux élèves de 3e.
Une heure par semaine inscrite à l'emploi du temps des élèves dans le cadre des horaires habituels de cours.

Quels sont les objectifs ?

Motiver les élèves à la prise de parole dans le cadre d'un débat contradictoire en langue anglaise
susciter des progrès en communication orale ;
affiner leurs compétences langagières en interaction orale ;
entraîner les élèves vers le niveau B1 du Cadre Européen Commun de Référence pour les Langues.
Développer des capacités transversales
bâtir collectivement un argumentaire ;
réinvestir des connaissances et des méthodes, mises en œuvre dans les enseignements non linguistiques (ex. histoire-géographie), pour étayer ses arguments à partir de l'analyse de faits.
Donner aux élèves la possibilité d'enrichir leur culture, de réfléchir et de se situer en qualité de futur citoyen européen conscient et responsable
Partager une réflexion avec d'autres élèves
cultiver un esprit de solidarité au sein d'un groupe, d'une équipe ;
développer respect et qualité de l'écoute de l'autre dans le cadre du débat.
Préparer les élèves volontaires à intégrer une section européenne au lycée (général, technologique et professionnel).
Les élèves inscrits en section européenne au lycée suivent un enseignement non-linguistique en langue étrangère. Les élèves inscrits en section européenne au lycée professionnel peuvent réaliser un stage en entreprise dans un pays européen.

Les élèves inscrits au club “Débats citoyens en langue anglaise” pourront, s'ils le souhaitent, participer au concours départemental des débats citoyens en langue anglaise.

03/21 - Une cabane pour les hérissons

Les hérissons sont malheureusement souvent tués par les voitures, les machines du jardin (débroussailleuse, tondeuse…), étouffés par les déchets abandonnés comme les sacs plastique…), attaqués par les animaux domestiques… Pourtant, le hérisson est un une aide pour le jardinier, il dévore les limaces, escargots, vers, chenilles, larves et autres insectes qui deviennent nuisibles en trop grand nombre ! Voilà pourquoi les éco-délégués du collège ont décidé de construire une cabane qui servira de refuge aux hérissons.

Avec l'aide de madame Denier d'Aprigny, professeure de SVT et de Jean-Marc Flambard, le jardinier, les élèves ont construit une superbe cabane !

Nous avons hâte de voir nos premiers hôtes prendre possession de leur maison !
